Spiritual Accompaniment
-
Spiritual accompaniment is a simple, sacred practice of walking with someone as they grow in their relationship with God. It is not counseling or problem‑solving, but a quiet, prayerful companionship where you are listened to, encouraged, and helped to notice how God is moving in your life.
In accompaniment, you are invited to slow down, breathe, and pay attention to the stirrings of your heart — the places where you feel drawn, strengthened, challenged, or comforted. The accompanier doesn’t tell you what to do; they simply walk beside you, helping you recognize God’s presence and respond to His grace with freedom and peace.
It is a gentle space to share your prayer, your questions, your joys, and your struggles, knowing you are held with reverence. Together, you learn to see your life through the eyes of faith and to follow Christ more closely in the ordinary rhythms of your days.
Spiritual accompaniment is for anyone longing to grow, to be known, and to walk more intentionally with Jesus.
What Accompaniment Offers:
• Prayerful listening and spiritual discernment
• Connection to the sacraments and prayer
• Practical guidance rooted in Scripture and Tradition
• Accountability and encouragement through life's challenges
• Clarity on God's call in your circumstances

Spiritual accompaniment and spiritual direction share the same heart: helping someone grow closer to Jesus. But they serve that purpose in slightly different ways.
Spiritual accompaniment is a gentle, relational practice of walking with someone in their faith. It focuses on encouragement, presence, and helping you notice how God is moving in your everyday life. It is simple, human, and deeply supportive — a companion on the journey who listens with reverence and helps you stay attentive to grace.
Spiritual direction is more structured and specific. A spiritual director is trained to help you discern the movements of the Holy Spirit in your prayer and interior life. Direction often involves regular meetings and a clearer focus on discernment, prayer, and the deeper patterns of your spiritual growth.
A simple way to understand the difference:
Accompaniment helps you walk with God in daily life.
Direction helps you listen for God more intentionally in prayer.
Both are beautiful. Both help you grow. Accompaniment is the broader, relational support; direction is the more formal, discernment‑focused ministry.

It’s completely okay if you don’t immediately feel a strong connection with your accompanier. Spiritual accompaniment is a very personal experience, and sometimes it takes a little time to settle in and feel comfortable. You are always free to pay attention to your own sense of peace and choose what feels right for your spiritual growth.
If, after a few conversations, you feel the relationship isn’t the best fit, you can simply let us know. There is no pressure, no awkwardness, and no need to explain more than you want to. Our desire is for you to receive care in a way that feels safe, natural, and spiritually nourishing — and sometimes that means trying a different accompanier.
Your spiritual journey is precious. We want you to be with someone you feel at ease with, someone who helps you listen to God’s voice more clearly. You will never hurt anyone’s feelings by asking for a different match. We’re here to support you, not bind you to a particular person.
